WHAT IS A TM2?

NOTICE OF CONVEYANCE FOR VEHICLES ENTERING / EXITING THAILAND

The Thathek Loop has been a major part of any backpacker traveling the Southern part of Laos. The loop consists of an relatively easy motorcycle route starting in the sleepy Mekhong town of Thathek and extending to the Vietnamese borders.

The loop, itself is just appealing, with its intensity of natural attractions, the relative ease and safety of the route. (The majority of the route is now sealed tarmac). You won’t have any problems finding fuel, food, lodgings or even medical care, should you need it.

What to See?

Caves – The majority of the attractions are stunning caves, which can be accessed on foot or by boat, but other attractions such as beautiful waterfalls, hot and cold springs along with viewpoints of the wonderful limestone scenery.

There are other less known attractions, weaving villages, a hydro-electric project, a missile silo left-over from days gone past and boats constructed from the aluminum casings of Vietnam war ordinance.

Finding the Attractions

Traditionally, riders have used a paper map, picked up from one of the traditional points, ‘Thathek travel lodge’, ‘Mad Monkey Bikes’ or ‘Green Discovery’. The maps are never that accurate and contain only a fraction of the attractions on the loop.

Getting There & Away

I prefer to complete mine beforehand, using the computer and to always keep a digital copy ready to print. If you can use Photoshop or similar, load the pdf into your chosen application and type away.

I use two fonts, AvantGardeMidlTCTT Regular (12) and a Thai font, Thai7BangkokSSK (16) to give a uniform look. These can both be found here.

If you are in any doubt, then complete as much as you can and just hand your green book over along with the form to the immigration officer.

Don’t get caught out, times are changing at Thailand’s border posts, complete your immigration forms on first arrival / departure at the border and keep a copy safe, it may cost you dearly.
